The fall planting season is here and we have many volunteer opportunities in the Cedar Rapids area! Come plant with us or help at an upcoming tree adoption event. Happy trails! 🦋🌳 Our friends at IMT Insurance put in a huge effort yesterday helping us plant in Des Moines! 34 employee volunteers came out to get 74 new trees planted along city right-of-ways. Thank you for the outstanding work and for your continued support! 🌳🌲🌳 This week the Iowa DNR published their assessment of the destruction caused by the 2020 derecho and noted that 7 million trees were either damaged or lost to the storm. Trees Forever and Iowa DNR employee Nick McGrath oversaw publishing of the assesment that can be found linked in our bio. Our next tree care workshop is tomorrow night in Cedar Rapids! Contact Nick McGrath at: nick.mcgrath@dnr.iowa.gov for more info. We are honored to accept the 2021 Gazette Business Award in the "Rebuilding" category for our work with the ReLeaf Cedar Rapids plan! Thank you to the @crgazette for the recognition and for your continued coverage of the derecho recovery work! We had a special opportunity to get together for an all-staff meeting and retreat last week! With staff members dispersed all throughout Iowa and Illinois, and with the craziness of the past year, this was an even more special occasion to spend time as a Trees Forever family! Following the 9/11 terrorist attacks, @alliant_energy announced the "Freedom Trees" partnership with Trees Forever to grant communities support for memorial tree plantings. Today we commemorated those events alongside the maturing trees and partners at the site of one such planting. Trees Forever Founder Shannon Ramsay was officially presented with her @arbordayfoundation Lifetime Stewardship Award at our Annual Celebration event on Wednesday evening. This prestigious commendation has previously been awarded to the former First Lady of the United States as well as Nobel Prize winners! Thank you Shannon for your vision and for your leadership for more than three decades!
