Southern Iowa Agroforestry Farm Crawl
October 10 @ 10:00 am – 4:00 pm
We all have a role to play in accelerating agroforestry in Iowa. We need farmers growing these specialty crops, we need processors turning them into value added products, and we need you – the public, to consume agroforestry products. Support agroforestry and Join Trees Forever for an agroforestry farm crawl featuring two agroforestry sites and products.
Indian Hills Community College in Centerville is home to the Nut Research Site growing a treasure trove of different nuts and fruits. Black walnuts, hazelnuts, pecans, hickories, chestnuts, persimmon and more are growing and producing nuts. We will tour the site on the Chestnut Express, our people mover, so come and join us for a leisurely ride through the orchard learning about different kinds of nuts.
Fox and Mare Farmstead is a 60 acre agroforestry farm with mature chestnut and paw paw trees producing fruit and nuts. David Farrell and Tierney Lain also raise dairy and meat goats, rabbits and quail just outside of Ottumwa. Paw paw will be ripe and ready and fruit will be available for tasting and for sale.
Registration is $30 and covers lunch, refreshments, and materials. This event will take place rain or shine.
If you are registering for more than one person, please submit each entry separately. You can refresh the page after your first submission.
