Planting Hope Grants

Planting Hope

Hope for Today, Trees for Tomorrow

A disaster beyond our imagining destroyed and uprooted trees across Iowa and Illinois on August 10, 2020. The derecho, or land hurricane, damaged thousands of acres of trees. It’s time to replant and return our communities to their green and beautiful past!

Planting Hope grants are competitive, reimbursable grants open to municipalities and nonprofit organizations in derecho affected areas of Iowa and Illinois. Planting projects are limited to publicly owned land, nonprofit property, schools and cemeteries with funding up to $5,000.

  • Plantings on public right-of-way
  • Tree or seedling giveaways (some restrictions apply)
  • Educational events and classroom activities
  • Clubs or church
  • Plantings of fruit and nut orchards
  • School memorials and cemetery plantings

Only thorough and complete applications that meet all guidelines will be considered. Preference will be given to projects that actively engage volunteers, support diverse and underserved populations, and that promote species diversity. Trees Forever staff members are available to support applicants in planning and executing successful and sustainable projects.

Reimbursement will be made after projects are complete and reporting forms are submitted and approved by Trees Forever.
