SUMMARY:Legacy Reception and Memorial Tree Planting
DESCRIPTION:Join us to recognize all of the individuals honored or memorialized through a donation to the Trees Forever Foundation\, the Granting a Better Tomorrow Endowment Fund and planned gifts. Together we will plant a few trees in our memorial grove. We invite friends and family members to write notes to their loved ones and place the notes in the soil before the trees are planted. As we think of the future and the new life being planted\, we’ll take a moment to reflect and thank those who have created this legacy. Your generosity is a testimony to a brighter\, better tomorrow. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLocation

SUMMARY:Iowa Urban Tree Council Awards Luncheon
DESCRIPTION:Tree-Mendous Growth\n\n\n\nCelebrate with Tree City USA communities\, Tree Campus projects\, Tree Line successes and more at the annual Iowa Urban Tree Council luncheon. Get inspired with stories of volunteers from across the state during the presentation of awards. \n\n\n\nAgenda\n\n\n\n10:00 am – Check-in and photographs11:00 am – Welcoming Remarks11:15 am – Keynote Speaker Mike Alonzo11:45 am – Lunch12:15 am – Awards & Tree City USA Recognition2:00 pm – Final Remarks \n\n\n\nRegistration is now closed.\n\n\n\n\n\nMike Alonzo is Assistant Professor of Environmental Science at American University\, Washington\, DC. He started in the urban forestry world with Casey Trees as a GIS Specialist who took interest in managing i-Tree projects including UFORE/i-Tree Eco studies. He thought\, after that: “Getting permission to visit all of these DC field plots is hard; how much of urban forest inventory can be done from the air?” This took him to UC Santa Barbara to complete a PhD in Geography with a focus on urban forest inventory using hyperspectral imagery and lidar. After a boreal forest postdoc at NASA Goddard\, he has a foot back in the urban realm focusing on urban tree response to heat and the potential for urban trees to cool their surroundings.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nChanges from Previous Years\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe 2022 event will be a hybrid in-person/virtual experience. Polk County\, Iowa is listed as a level medium\, which does not include a recommendation for masking\, except for people who are immunocompromised or at high risk for severe illness or if you live with someone at high risk.
