SUMMARY:Grow Your Tree Canopy in Kalona
DESCRIPTION:Join Trees Forever Field Coordinator Peter Lundgren at the Kalona Public Library to learn about the tree canopy in Kalona and the importance of having a biodiverse and robust community of trees in urban areas. The purpose of this Tree-Mendous workshop is to advocate for increasing tree canopy in Iowa towns through improved community forestry management practices. We will be examining the new 2022 Iowa DNR tree inventory\, explore local tree ordinances\, and discuss current and emerging threats to trees— including the notorious Emerald Ash Borer. The first half of the morning will conclude with the top ten ways to grow our urban tree canopy and cover grant opportunities available to plant trees in town to improve biodiversity and canopy cover. We will finish off the morning with a Tree Awe Walk to the local park to identify trees and enjoy some time in nature.
