DESCRIPTION:Woodlands and invasive species will be the topic for this field day at the Willow Lake Nature Center located at 2725 Easton Trail\, Woodbine IA 51579 starting at 6:00 pm. During this session we will be visiting on-site woodlands identifying desirable native species and the invasive species that can negatively impact the quality of a woodland. We will also talk about ways to manage invasive species. This field day will be led by Thad Pothast with the Harrison County Conservation Board.

SUMMARY:Black Hawk County Stewards of the Beautiful Land: Smith Prairie Walk
DESCRIPTION:Come join field coordinator\, Bri Hull at Daryl Smith Prairie on UNI’s campus for a prairie walk and history of one of the largest campus preserves system in Iowa. Smith Prairie was approved on the first Earth Day in 1970. Since then it has been populated by a variety of transplants from remnant prairies\, seedings\, burns\, and more. Today\, students use it for research\, recreators use it for walking\, and we can use it to learn about Iowa’s amazing landscape.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe will meet at the entrance at 9:00a. Please park along West 29th St. and be sure to wear long pants\, a hat\, and bring plenty of water!

DESCRIPTION:Join Dr. Tom Rosburg for a prairie walk at Doolittle Prairie\, Story County’s largest prairie remnant. See what is blooming this month compared to last month\, and learn more about the history and ecology of central Iowa’s prairies. We will practice a little prairie plant ID.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis walk is free to attend\, we will be walking in the prairie therefore wear long pants\, long sleeved shirt\, close toed shoes are recommended…..and don’t forget the bug spray.
