DESCRIPTION:Join Trees Forever field coordinator Nick McGrath to learn more about growing your local tree canopy. The workshop will touch on many issues surrounding trees\, including planting\, care & maintenance\, species selection\, ordinances/tree lists and inventories. We will take a look at what Nick refers to as the “tree diversity funnel”\, benefits of trees\, impacts of landscaping on safety and retail business and some interesting ideas around cost-effective tree procurement. \n\n\n\n\n\nIt will also act as an opportunity to learn about all of the grant opportunities that are available to communities and non-profit organizations through Trees Forever and our many partner organizations. Several of these grants open on September 1 and we want to encourage more people to apply and take advantage of the funding. The course is structured with monthly webinars featuring guest presenters which lay the groundwork and knowledge base for where to find native plants on the landscape\, the various landforms of Iowa\, invasive species identification and management\, pollinator habitat enhancement and protection and more. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEach month will also feature an in-person meeting to learn from one another\, walk through the woods or prairie identifying native plants and trees\, and hands-on skills like how to properly plant and care for natives.
